Sound and Vision publishes invitation to tender for the preservation of film

July 8th 2008

This tender encompasses two of Dutch television history’s most valuable sub-collections: NOS-Journaal – the national news broadcasts, and TV-Programma - which contains among others documentaries, magazines, shows, reports, interviews, church services, dramas, operas, plays, and music. The recordings took place between 1952 and 1968, Dutch television’s pioneering era.

The order comprises the preservation of roughly 2.300 hours of recordings on 16-mm black-and-white acetate film. Preservation here means copying the vintage acetate film, which is subject to the so-called ‘vinegar syndrome’, to prevent it from being lost forever. This procedure will take four to five years.

The notice has been published on ted.europa.eu
