Winner Celluloid Remix announced

On September 25 the prize winners of Celluloid Remix were announced at the Netherlands Film Festival. Celluloid Remix is an online remix-competition with films from the beginning of Dutch film history organized by the Filmmuseum and Images for the Future. Out of 54 high quality entries the jury picked Jata Haan’s film Movement as the winner.



The 8 nominated remixes were shown on the large screen at the packed film theater ’t Hoogt in Utrecht. Afterwards moderator Patrick van Mil interviewed the enthusiastic makers. Finally the chairman of the jury Eboman (Jeroen Hofs) announced the four winning films.

Winners
1st prize: Jata Haan with Movement  
She wins a remix package worth one thousand euro that she can spend as she chooses on hard- or software, a Golden Calf- pass to the Netherlands Film Festival and one year free entry to the Filmmuseum. From the jury report: “the technique she used stood out from all the other entries. Once you start looking at the film, you can’t stop. The delight of the process can be seen.”

2nd prize: Casper Smit with Ecclisiastes
He wins a Flip MinoHD camera, a Golden Calf-pass to the Netherlands Film Festival and one year free entry to the Filmmuseum. From the jury report: “Image wise, sound wise and text wise Ecclisiastes is complete. An original way of thinking.”

3rd prize: Hugo Huurdeman with Het zwarte duister (The black darkness)
4th prize: Wouter Haasnoot with Remixilla

They both win a Resolume Avenue 3 VJ software package.

Winner Jata Haan about Movement:  “This virtual reflection of Amsterdam does not only show the physical changes that have taken place over the past century, but also demonstrates the vast amount of material that is available to filmmakers and artists.”

About Celluloid Remix
Celluloid Remix is an online remix competition organized by the Filmmuseum and Images for the Future with films from the beginning of Dutch film history. The theme is Modern Times. Entrants remixed exceptional cinematographic material from the period 1917-1932 into new short films with their own soundtrack. The 21 available fragments were selected by the Filmmuseum from its collection of early Dutch film. The films were digitized within the framework of Images for the Future.

Celluloid Remix’s goal is to experiment with the possibilities of digitized film material. The competition was launched on April 15, entries could be submitted until September 1 2009. A total of 54 entries were received.
