Launch of Celluloid Remix on BeamLab

April 16th 2009

Celluloid RemixFilmmuseum and Images for the Future launched Celluloid Remix, an online remix competition with films from the beginning of Dutch film history. Professionals and amateurs will remix special Dutch cinematographic material, dating from the period 1917-1932, into new, short films with their own soundtrack. Yesterday, the competition kicked off with a thrilling live performance by Eboman at a packed BeamLab.

The theme of Celluloid Remix is ‘Modern Times’, the film maker’s vision on modernity. Filmmuseum has selected 21 fragments from its collection of Dutch Early Cinema. This is unique digital cinematographic material from the beginning of Dutch film history, the period of the silent film, which is digitized as part of the Images for the Future project.

Modern Times
The film fragments show the industrial and social changes in the years after the First World War in Holland. Celluloid Remix triggers the contestants to use their remixes to share their views on the rapid changes in the world of today, yesterday, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. The fragments, the remixes and the terms of the competition can be found at www.celluloidremix.nl (in Dutch only).
