Libraries develop applications for disclosure of national and local material

February 25th 2008

Four libraries are starting projects in the near future wherein national audiovisual sources from Images for the Future will be disclosed in combination with local material, with the intention of producing applications and business models for use within the entire sector.

The library of Zeeland, DOK Delft, Biblionet Groningen and the public library of Heerlen will function as pilot-purchasers of Images for the Future-sources and -content. They will forefront the implementation of AV- and image content in what libraries have to offer. Digital platforms will be set up in these libraries where Images for the Future-content will be distributed and tested.

Biblionet Groningen connects Images for the Future to 50 years of gas exploitation. The library of Heerlen is planning to launch projects about Harrie Geelen and mining. DOK Delft is developing a “Storyboard of my life”, where visitors of the DOK can tell the life story of a loved one by using their own material in combination with material from the archives. The library of Zeeland will connect Images for the Future with material from the Archive of Zeeland and the Foundation of Cultural Heritage in the portal geschiedeniszeeland.nl.

These projects intend to develop generic concepts and applications, so that Images for the Future sources can be distributed and disclosed after a possible connection with local sources in the library sector. VOB has appointed Wouter van der Hoog from DOK Delft for the coordination of these projects.
