First European tender of Sound and Vision
January 31st 2008
On the 25th of January, Sound and Vision and Technicolor (formerly known as NOB) signed an agreement for the encoding of approximately 50.000 hours of historical television archive material. This is the first European tender of Sound and Vision concerning Images for the Future. This marks the beginning of a total of 280.000 hours of AV-Material that will be digitized within the next six years.
The material will be digitized by Technicolor Encoding within the next three years. The material in question will be transferred from Digibeta to MXF D10-50. Ditgitization will take place through an automatic encoding system which functions efficiently and without loss of quality. We are dealing with a maximum of 55.000 hours of video material that need to be encoded and made digitally available prior to January 1st 2011. Every month Technicolor encodes nearly 2000 hours of material: television programs ranging between the early 70s and the year 2006. Future plans include the tender of film-digitization, film-preservation and the digitization of photo negatives.
