Teleblik wins Prix d’Italia

October 1st 2007

Teleblik.jpgTeleblik, an initiative by the Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision, TeleacNOT (the Dutch educational public broadcaster), and Knowledge-net Ict at School (Kennisnet Ict op school; a public, educational ICT support organization), has won the 2007 Prix d’Italia for ‘best educational web application’. The prestigious international television and Internet prizes awarded to quality dramas, documentaries, performing arts (television) and music (radio), were handed out for the 59th time. On Saturday 29th September, Teleblik’s editors received their prize in Verona. The jury praised the web service – among other things – for the ‘depth and scope of its content’, ‘the possibilities of editing source material’, and its ‘educational value’.

Teleblik (www.teleblik.nl) provides educational institutions with Internet accessibility to thousands of hours of radio- and television from public broadcasters’ archives. The content selected and contextualized by Teleblik’s editors comprises broadcasts and excerpts from the Polygoon News, Andere tijden, Schooltv, Teleac, Willem Wever, NOS News and many others. Sound and Vision manages a pool of hundreds and thousands of radio and television from which Teleblik can cherry-pick.

The institute has asked teachers and pupils to list their preferences: anyone with ideas or wishes about certain programs can voice these via a special form on the Teleblik-website. Teachers and pupils can support their activities using Teleblik’s sources and give an impulse to more attractive and effective education.

The website offers suggestions for didactic use of its source material. In addition, it packs a unique feature in offering the possibility of ‘cutting’ excerpts from broadcasts and passing these on. In doing so, Teleblik offers not only a receptive gaze, but also an active, constructive, and creative way of learning: Teleblik is more than ‘watching television’! As of next year, Teleblik will be part of the Education Media Platform
