During a period of seven years, 137.200 hours of video, 22.510 hours of film, 123.900 hours of audio, and 2.9 million photos from the archives involved will be restored, preserved, and digitized. In 2007, Sound and Vision, the Filmmuseum, and the National Archive will prepare European subcontracts for the following activities:
- Digitizing and encoding film
- Digitizing and encoding video
- Preserving and digitizing photographic content.
European Subcontracts
A significant part of the activities surrounding preservation and digitization is being carried out externally and will be subcontracted in Europe. Where possible, the partners will march together. In 2007, two contracts will be rounded off: film preservation (public subcontract, allotment in October) and codification of video (nonpublic subcontract, allotment in December).
More Information about the Subcontracts
Images for the Future won’t be able to subcontract everything at the start of the project. For instance, the National Archive is conducting research to arrive at justifiable methods and norms for the preservation and digitization of photos. Sound and Vision and the Filmmuseum are doing similar research in the field of film digitization and encoding.
