First Steps Media Education Platform
August 27th 2007
Education forms one of the project’s most important terrains. To provide optimal service to pupils and teachers, Images for the Future has decided to erect a platform that will harness as much content as possible: the Education Media Platform (‘Onderwijs Media Platform’: OMP). Goal is not only making audiovisual content available for consultation, but transforming it to learning tools that can actually be used in the classroom.
To investigate how the OMP can contribute meaningfully to education, the consortium is setting up a pilot in the autumn 2007-2008 school year, for secondary education. One group of pupils will be getting their hands on the OMP, relegating the use of books during lessons entirely. Another group will use the platform as a support to the current curriculum. What the consortium aims to find out, is how such a platform functions in daily practice. The pilot’s experience should lead us to the final version of the OMP.
Meanwhile, much thinking is being done about the pilot OMP’s technical realization, as well as which ELO’s can and want to cooperate in the trial run.
